Conflict has a unique and disproportionate effect on women, and it follows that women occupy a distinct role in peace processes. This policy brief highlights women’s contribution to ending the 26-year rule of former head of state, Omar al-Bashir. It makes a case for better representation and the increased inclusion of women and their challenges in subsequent peacebuilding conversations. While more needs to be done to end policies and practices that discriminate against women, it must be acknowledged that Sudan is home to a robust cohort of women who can inspire and lead the country.
