TfP sustains capacity building support to advance the institutional transformation of the D-PAPS of the African Union
From 13th -14th May 2024, selected General Services Staff (G-Staff) of the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (D-PAPS) of the African Union (AU) benefited from a 2-day training on basic office administration. The idea to hold this training sprouted during the Training Needs Assessment (TNA) conducted in November 2022. Initially focused on the capacity needs of the professional staff of the Department, the TNA unearthed the need to develop the capacities of the General Staff to enable them better contribute to the implementation of the Department’s mandate. This was re-echoed in August 2023 during pre-retreat preparations with the G-Staff, and further re-emphasized with a request by Commissioner Bankole Adeoye.
Given their function as the administrative back bone of the D-PAPS, the G-Staff are a critical pillar to achieving the effective and efficient delivery of the Department’s mandate. Thus, the 2-day training provided them with knowledge on general office management and enhanced their interpersonal and administrative skills on office and telephone etiquette, writing style for official correspondence, meeting and conference planning, among others.
The training was a relevant platform to sensitise participants on their role in the change management process in order to leverage the potential of all staff for optimal functioning and performance of the Department. It forms part of the broader agenda to transform the Department to deliver on its mandate to promote peace, security and stability on the Continent. The third in the training series – Analytical and Progress Reporting – is scheduled to be delivered in the second week of July 2024.
