Pilot Training on Leadership held for staff of the AU PAPS Department

Training is integral to enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in any organisation, providing staff with the requisite knowledge and skills to improve performance. As part of the institutional reform of the organisation, the Senior Management Team of the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security requested the TfP to support staff training of the Department. The TfP recommended that a systematic approach should be adopted for the training. Using the Training cycle approach, TfP supported the conduct of a department-wide training needs analysis.

The Training Needs identified critical areas:  Project Management; Strategic Planning; Monitoring and Evaluation; Leadership; Team Building and Negotiation. In addition, the senior management team also identified report writing as critical. Subsequently, training was developed for the five areas. Through TfP’s support, training on leadership was organised for the senior and mid-management staff of the Department. It is expected that the training will be applied in the work environment to help realise the objectives of the intervention. In a few years, the TfP will support the Department to evaluate the impact of the training to ascertain the extent to which it has contributed to change in performance.
