ARBE and D-PAPS Interdepartmental Retreat on Climate Change, Peace, and Security

The AUC convened a 3-day interdepartmental retreat between the Departments of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (D-PAPS) and Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (ARBE), with the objective to foster collaboration and develop a unified inter-departmental approach on Climate, Peace, and Security. The agenda encompassed key focus areas, namely, formulating a roadmap for establishing an African Common Position on Climate, Peace, and Security, fostering policy integration, and mainstreaming conflict and climate considerations.

The retreat was organised in the lead-up to wide consultations on the development of the first Common Africa Position on Climate, Peace and Security and coordination for the development of an Action Plan. The retreat was jointly hosted by D-PAPS, ARBE and NUPI through the TfP initiative. In addition to providing technical and financial support, NUPI/TfP also assisted with the planning and design of the retreat. The outcomes of the retreat include a Common Africa Position on Climate, Peace and Security Development Roadmap and the publication of a policy brief in the near future.
