Workshop on Funding options for African-led peace support operations
25 May 2016
The event was hosted by the African Union at the Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union to the United Nations in New York with support from NUPI. The aim of the workshop was to take stock of the various financing and support models that have been used to fund African peace operations to date, as well as to consider new options for financing and supporting AU-led peace support operations. The workshop sought to promote synergy between the work of the AU High Representative for the Peace Fund, and the on-going joint AU-UN Review of Financing Options for AU-led PSOs, a parallel yet related process. The findings and recommendations of the workshop fed into the report of the High Representative that will be submitted to the Summit of African Heads of State and Government that took place in Kigali in July 2016.Participants included a delegation from the UN including DPA, DPKO and DFS staff, the African Union including heads of MISAHEL and former SRCC of AMISOM, PSOD, EU, Permanent Representatives and counsellors from Russia, France, UK, USA, Germany, Sweden, Norway, as well as experts and the AU High Representative Team.
