Norwegian National Police Directorate (POD) supports the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Command Post Exercise

EASF completed its last Command Post Exercise from 12 - 22 November 2014 before declaring Full Operational Capability (FOC) by the end of 2014. The FOC will be declared one year ahead of schedule given by African Union (AU). At the closing ceremony of the exercise, all the honourable speakers focused on the importance of multidimensionality as a key to success. Among the speakers was the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers for Defence and Security in EASF Region, the Head of Peace and Security Department in the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Director of EASF Secretariat.

During the Visitor’s Day, Norwegian National Police Directorate (POD) was briefed by participants representing the “Mission’s Sector Commands". In all 3 sectors, the Sector-Head of Civilian Components presented themselves as coordinator of their respective sector.  The aim of the presentations were to reflect the realities on the ground which is a significant direction for cooperation between the civilian, military and police components. The Police Commissioner’s position in the exercise was played by Col Howida Abubaker Mohamed from the Republic of the Sudan.  Furthermore, during the exercise, the POD adviser to EASF was engaged in advising the police component. In addition, the Danish Police adviser to EASF was part of the Evaluation Team. POD continues to be responsible for training and deployment of Norwegian police officers in international peace operations.  In TfP, POD continues to support the programme’s police activities, through specialist advice and specially educated training capacity to the TfP partners.
