The ISS conducted a workshop at the ISS office in Addis Ababa from 5-12 March to finalise the Gender Mainstreaming and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Peace Support Operations training curriculum package. The participants of the workshop were Liezelle Kumalo, Meressa Kahsu, Riana Paneras from ISS, Irene Limo from ACCORD and Hans-Petter Keilland from the Norwegian Police.
The specific objective of the development workshop was to finalise the eight Modules for the Reader, facilitator guides, PowerPoint presentations and participants learning journals for eight modules. The revision of the course material was initiated last year to ensure that the SGBV training is more focused on multi-dimensional peace support operations and to incorporate the gender mainstreaming aspect during mandate implementation and in organisations.
The training is divided into two sections: Gender Mainstreaming and Dealing with Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). During the 7-Day workshop the group completed the final drafts of all the training materials related to the Gender Mainstreaming that will be utilised during the first week of the 10 days training as well as the Readers for the next four modules on Dealing with Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. The rest of the material remain at draft level and will be finalized shortly. The first training in Kigali, Rwanda, will take place from 22 May–2 June 2017.
