28 Sep 2015
From 14-25 September 2015, ISS/TfP in collaboration with the East African Standby Force Secretariat delivered a United Nations Police Officers Course (UNPOC) pre-deployment training for Ethiopian Individual Police Officers (IPO’s) within the framework of supporting Police Contributing Countries (PCC) to contribute sending the right police officers to AU/UN peace operation.
The training was attended by 40 Ethiopian police officers of which five were female. It was conducted at the Ethiopian Police University College (EPUC) in Sendaffa, Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission (EFPC). ISS/TfP’s strategic objective with the UNPOC pre-deployment training is to implement the UN Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKOs) standardised pre-deployment training solution. Further the aim of the training was to enhance the effective and efficient implementation of the UN/African Union (AU) Police mandate in peacekeeping and peacebuilding mission in Africa. This is to be achieved through better capacity of the Individual Police Officers (IPOs). The UNPOC pre-deployment training focused on enhancing the knowledge, skills, and qualities of IPOs to perform their daily operational duties and responsibilities as UN/AU police in a manner that supports the effective and efficient implementation of the mission and UN/AU Police mandate, considering the AU/UN strategic policing frameworks, and the realities of the operational environment.
