The ISS’s Conflict Management and Peacebuilding Division Head, Annette Leijenaar, visited International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) to participate in the selection of the ISS/TfP Police Advisor and Trainer. Mr Chege Gathogo was appointed as of 1 May 2015 to assist with East Africa Standby Force (EASF) training. Mr Chege Gathogo is a former staff member of the AU PSOD and a retired Police officer from the Kenyan Police Force. He will support the African Union (AU) police training and advice on the preparation of police officers for deployment to African missions. This will ensure that police advice and training is conducted in order to continue the efforts by TfP to enhance the AU Peace Support Operations Divisions (PSOD) capacities of training police officers. He will also assist with enhancing the East African Police contribution towards its EASF police standby capacity/capabilities and conducting in-mission training for African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) based on the AU PSOD requests.

Ms Leijenaar also met with the EASF Secretariat for coordination of their upcoming 2015 police training. The co-operation and collaboration amongst the EASF Secretariat, Norwegian National Police Directorate (POD), ISS/TfP and IPSTC was further enhanced through discussions. The appointment of Mr Chege Gathogo will enhance the efforts by TfP in ensuring effective collaboration and delivering AU approved training.
