The ISS/TfP organised a mission specific police pre-deployment training (PPDT) development workshop for the Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). Pursuant to a request from AU Peace Support Operation Division (PSOD), ISS/TfP is continuing to develop standardised training material to support police contributing countries (PCCs) to AMISOM through the AU PSOD. The objective of the development workshop was to present draft of all module Readers and practical Field Training Exercises (FTX) guidelines developed as per the course design; get final inputs through feedbacks from beneficiaries and peer module developers; and ensure the module Readers and practical exercises were developed to meet the real needs of the AU mission in Somalia. The participation of the AMISOM PC, Anand Pillay and two other AMISOM Police officers contributed to ensure the Somalia reality is included in the curriculum development.
ISS/TfP presented the draft module Readers and FTX guidelines to participants including Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Crowd Chirenje, Head PSOD Capability Development Unit and Police Coordinator; Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Aryee, AMISOM police reform, restructure and development coordinator; two training and reform experts from AMISOM police; UNOAU police planning officer; and the Danish Police Advisor to East Africa Standby Force (EASF).
