Building from the AMISOM standardisation workshops, a curriculum development workshop and a a field visit to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in May. ISS/TfP, lead by Riana Paneras, held a third workshop from the 12th – 15th of June 2016 with purpose of evaluating the progress of development for Module 1 (Introduction to Peace Support Operations) and the Field Training Exercise. Furthermore, to develop a framework and provide inputs on Module 2 (Somalia Situation), Module 3 (Mandate Implementation) and Module 4 (Protection of Civilians), and lastly identify the way forward towards finalising the curriculum in time.

As highlighted, ISS/TfP held a second AMISOM PPDT curriculum development workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 04th – 08th April 2016. The purpose of the workshop was first to have discussions between the curriculum developers of the AMISOM specific Police Pre-deployment Training Programme and the AU clients as well as to further finalise and agree on the curriculum design. Subsequently, a field training Needs Assessment for AMISOM Police was conducted between 30th April – 04th May 2016, in order to create a comprehensive understanding of the operational environment of the AMISOM Police component towards the development of the AMISOM Specific Police Pre-deployment Training (PPDT) Curriculum.
