The SADC Standby Force (SADC SF) Civilian Component Awareness Raising Workshop was held in Gaborone, Botswana, on 12-13 December 2016. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Governments of Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe and included representatives from the AU-PSOD, RPTC and ACCORD. This was the first ever Civilian Component Awareness Raising Workshop since the Civilian Component was incorporated into the SADC SF. To reinforce among the Member States representatives the importance of the civilian component in contemporary PSOs, the AU-PSOD and SADC Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre (RPTC) made presentations on various related topics. ACCORD made a presentation on the Role of Civilians in PSOs. A number of significant proposals were made and they will be captured in the report of the workshop.
