As the Strategic Headquarters of the African Standby Force (ASF), the African Union (AU) Commission provides strategic guidance to the Regional Economic Communities / Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) and Member States for the further enhancement of the ASF. This is done through harmonization, standardization and coordination of ASF training processes and courses, command and staff as well as field training exercises at operational and tactical levels. The AU Commission is also required to undertake periodic assessment of African Peace Support Operations (PSO) capacities and to assist in the coordination of external initiatives in support of ASF training and capacity building.
