32nd GIMAC Pre-Summit Consultative Meeting
ISS/TfP participated in the Gender is My Agenda Campaign (GIMAC) consultative meeting on Gender Mainstreaming in the African Union and Member States on 20-21 June 2018 in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The meeting was entitled: “Corruption and Governance: Impact and way out for Women, Children and Youths.” The objective of the event was to provide recommendations to the AU that promote more systematic and effective engagement with the women and youth to overcome corrupt practices. Over 100 participants participated in the event, from rural women farmers to educationalist specialist.
The Key areas that were discussed to lead to the recommendations were: The AU reform and the way forward for GIMAC; Corrupt Practices in Women’s health care and sexual and reproductive health rights; Elimination of child marriage and SGBV; Using arts to fight corruption; Land allocation and alienation of women; Impact of corruption on unpaid care work; Conflict, and illicit financial outflows in the extractive industry; Corruption in the education sector; Peace, Security and elections and Migration and youth corruption in Africa.
