Upon request of the Ethiopian Police University, ISS/TfP conducted 2 weeks police pre-deployment training for Ethiopian Police officers from 5 to 16 February 2018 at Sendaffa, Ethiopia. The objective of the course was capacity building through enhancing knowledge, skills and attitude of police officers required for UN peace operations in implementing mandates related to the police component.

36 police officers, including four female, who were all UN SAAT cleared for a mission service and were on standby for deployment to peace operations, actively participated in the training. Information received from the Ethiopia authorities indicates that all the officers participated in the training will be soon deployed to UN missions in South Sudan, Darfur and Abiye.

ISS partners such as the UN office to the African Union, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the British Peace Support Team – Africa (BPST-A) played active roles in the pre-deployment training. Major funding for the training was covered by the BPST-A.
