ISS/TfP Gender Mainstreaming in Peacekeeping manual adaptation workshop
3 Jun 2016
Between the 30th of May and the 3rd of June 2016, ISS/TfP held a workshop in Addis Ababa aimed at reworking and adapting the Gender Mainstreaming manual to include the other two components of peacekeeping-civilian and military, for an upcoming training on Gender and Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in July 2016. ISS/TfP and the African Centre for Peace and Security Training (ACPST) another divisional component of the ISS, were requested by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Peace Support Training Centre (FDRE-PSTC) to conduct a training for their peacekeepers to better understand gender and the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in conflict and post-conflicting settings.
Peacekeepers continue to encounter cases of SGBV whilst performing their duties in Peace Support Operations (PSOs), therefore, they have to be equipped to effectively support and/or conduct SGBV prevention and responses as part of their daily duties and responsibilities.
The following eight modules would be part of the curriculum:
- Gender Perspective
- Gender Regulatory Frameworks
- Gender mainstreaming in mission mandate implementation
- Gender mainstreaming in the organisation
- Understanding SGBV and its impact
- Response to SGBV
- Analysis of SGBV
- Prevention of SGBV
