East African Standby Force (EASF) and the Norwegian Police Directorate (POD) conduct ISS/TfP Mid-Level Managers (MLM) Course
29 Sep 2015
The East African Standby Force (EASF) Mid-Level Managers (MLM) course was presented by the EASF in collaboration with the Norwegian Police Directorate (POD). The ISS/TFP remained responsible for the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in order to ensure that the outcomes and the objectives of the course are achieved. The International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) based in Nairobi, Kenya hosted the training from 17-28 August 2015. The training consisted of 21 participants, four of which were female. The objective of the course was to enhance the capacity of the African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) to effectively and efficiently implement police mandated duties, through better-capacitated MLM. The training course fills an educational gap that had been identified in mission preparations, especially in building the capacity of local police with the use of training, and facilitating a number of work related meetings and contact sessions with the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS). The MLM course was divided into nine modules and six practical exercises that were aimed at enhancing the fundamental knowledge, skills and qualities of African Police Officers to perform their daily operational and administrative duties.  The course was designed to enable participants to better understand peace operations and conflict resolution mechanisms; enhance the quality of leadership and management in peace operations that is focused on human resource development; understand the regulatory framework wherein police duties and responsibilities must be performed; and to apply guidelines and tools of protection to enhance knowledge and skills on planning and implementing prevention and response to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).
