On 7–8 March, ISS attended and presented at two consultations organised by the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank (WB) on The Role of Development in Preventing Violent Conflict. The consultations are part of UN/WB Global Study on the Linkage between Conflict Prevention and Development that will be presented at the opening of the UN General Assembly and Annual Meetings of the WB and International Monetary Fund in 2017. It was an opportunity for the UN and the World Bank to interact with stakeholders in Addis Ababa, particularly the African Union, regarding their views and perspectives around conflict prevention. The ISS was the only think tank present in the discussions and it shared views on the current status and opportunities for the AU to increase its roles in structural conflict prevention and its linkages to long-term development.
