ISS and POD co-host a United Nations Police Officers Course Train-the-Trainer for EASF member police contributing countries
11 Dec 2015
UNPOC TOT 1 From the 25th September to the 09th of October 2015, ISS/TfP and POD in collaboration with the East African Standby Force Secretariate (EASFSC) delivered a Training of Trainers (ToT) course to 20 police trainers from five countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. The training was aimed at building training facilitation skills of adult learning which will be used by the trainers to deliver the United Nations Police Officers Course (UNPOC). ISS/TfP’s Strategic objective with the UNPOC ToT was to focus on building the fundamental knowledge, skills, and qualities of police trainers to facilitate the UNPOC to regional and own police officers to be deployed to UN and/or AU lead peace operations, considering adult learning methodologies and active learning approaches. UNPOC TOT 2 The specific objectives of the UNPOC ToT course in Ethiopia was three-fold:
  • Support national police training centre capacity building as the course was planned and delivered with an initial request of the Ethiopian Police University College (EPUC) to effectively deliver pre-deployment trainings to their police officers before deployment to any UN and/or AU lead peace operations;
  • Support the EASF police component as part of capacity building program to enhance the capacity of national and regional police trainers for AU peace operations in the region under the framework of the Africa Standby Force (ASF); and
  • Test the relevance and effectiveness of the newly designed and developed UNPOC ToT course by the ISS/TfP as a pilot course.
